Check currency, unit and timestamp first
A gold chart can describe US dollars per troy ounce, Canadian dollars per troy ounce, or a converted price per gram. Those are different views of the same broad market and cannot be compared accurately unless the currency, unit and time are visible together.
One troy ounce is approximately 31.1035 grams. Converting an ounce reference to grams is useful for jewellery and smaller products, but rounding and provider timing should be disclosed rather than hidden behind false precision.
Canadian prices contain an exchange-rate component
A CAD gold reference reflects both the underlying gold market and the Canadian-dollar conversion. When the Canadian dollar moves against the US dollar, a Canadian chart can change even when the underlying US-dollar gold reference moves less or in a different direction.
The Bank of Canada publishes exchange-rate information that can help a reader understand the currency side of a CAD calculation. It does not transform a market reference into an offer to buy or sell a physical product.
A chart is market context, not a settlement instruction
Retail bullion includes a product premium, availability, payment and fulfilment economics. A dealer purchase amount also depends on authentication, product recognition, testing, resale or refining route and settlement risk. Jewellery adds purity and eligible-weight questions.
Use a chart to prepare questions and decide whether a fresh reference is needed. Do not rely on a chart as a reservation, price lock, inventory confirmation or commitment that an online transaction route exists.
