Contained metal
Multiply the pure-gold price per gram by the item’s gold-bearing weight and purity. A hallmark and home measurement are useful starting points, but still need verification.

Canadian gold price FAQ
Common questions about the price.
Is the gold price shown here a purchase offer?
No. It is a market benchmark or user-entered scenario. A dealer offer depends on verified weight, purity, authenticity, product form, testing cost, settlement and the expected resale or refining route.
How do you convert a gold price from ounces to grams?
One troy ounce equals approximately 31.1035 grams. Divide the CAD price per troy ounce by 31.1035 to estimate the reference value of one gram of pure gold.
Why is 14K gold worth less per gram than 24K gold?
Fourteen-karat gold is commonly treated as 58.5% gold, while high-purity bullion is commonly marked 999 or 9999 fine. The remaining mass is alloy or other material, so the contained-gold reference is lower.
Why can a bullion coin sell above the gold benchmark?
Fabrication, distribution, recognition, security features, condition, availability and dealer economics can create a product premium above contained-metal value.
