The Royal Canadian Mint’s standard 2026 one-ounce Gold Maple Leaf contains one troy ounce of 99.99% pure gold and has a C$50 face value. Its bullion economics are based on its gold content and product premium, not that face value. Fractional, proof, commemorative and ultra-high-relief issues are different products.

A random-year offer can differ from a current-year coin, a damaged coin or a category with eligible Bullion DNA security features. A useful comparison specifies the exact category and condition. Familiar design and a hallmark are not substitutes for verification.

A dated snapshot—not a cheapest-dealer ranking

We checked the two public pages below within the same minute on September 15, 2026 at 12:15 p.m. Pacific (19:15 UTC). The common CAD reference is C$5,989.59 per ounce, displayed on Canada Gold’s table at that check. Percentages below are our calculations against that one reference, not the dealers’ stated margins.

These listings match metal, weight and currency, but do not establish identical year/security categories. Canada Gold’s standard category excludes DNA coins; VBCE describes random dates from 1983 onward. Payment-specific adjustments, available quantity and delivered cost were not verified. The comparison is a lesson in reading an advertised premium—not a recommendation, a firm quote or an assertion of stock.

A C$20 difference can disappear at checkout

The observed headline difference was C$20. To turn it into an all-in comparison, add the applicable payment adjustment, shipping or pickup cost, and any other mandatory fee to each side. If those costs are unknown, the delivered-cost comparison is unknown—not zero.

For an illustration unrelated to either dealer, a C$6,090 coin with C$35 delivery totals C$6,125. A C$6,110 coin with no additional charge totals C$6,110. The more expensive displayed coin is C$15 less expensive overall. Personal travel time and the suitability of the collection arrangements are separate considerations.

• Confirm the exact year/condition/security category and whether substitution is allowed.
• Confirm the accepted payment method, any surcharge and when the price becomes binding.

Ask about the other side of the transaction

A purchase premium is (purchase price ÷ contained-metal reference − 1) × 100. Effective resale payout is (net resale proceeds ÷ the contemporaneous contained-metal reference) × 100. These answer different questions. A recognisable coin may be easier for a dealer to evaluate, but no product guarantees a particular future bid or recovery of its original premium.

Compare a written purchase quote with a clearly labelled buyback indication for the same category. Ask whether damage, cleaning, missing documentation or additional verification changes that indication. Keep the price date and currency beside each number.

Protect the coin and its evidence

Handle the edges carefully and avoid abrasive cleaning. Retain the invoice, any capsule and a private record of the purchase. For eligible coins, the Mint describes radial lines, a micro-engraved mark and dealer-accessible Bullion DNA verification. Security features support a verification process; they do not make every photograph of a Maple Leaf authentic.
