01

Compare the all-in acquisition cost, not only spot.

A retail silver price can include the CAD metal reference, minting or fabrication, wholesale availability, distribution, payment cost and dealer margin. Smaller products often carry a higher percentage premium because fixed production and handling costs are spread across fewer ounces.

Compare the exact product, quantity, payment method and delivery route at the same market timestamp. A low advertised unit price is incomplete if required fees, shipping or a different payment price appear later.

  • Record price per item and effective price per troy ounce.
  • Separate premium from the contained-silver reference.
  • Ask for the current buyback on the identical product.
  • Include delivery, insurance, payment and storage costs.
02

Choose format around both ownership and resale.

Recognized one-ounce coins can offer divisibility and broad product familiarity, while larger bars may reduce percentage premium but concentrate more value in each unit. Exact liquidity depends on product recognition, authentication, condition and dealer demand.

Silver also occupies materially more physical space than the same dollar value of gold. Tubes, monster boxes and larger bars require a custody plan that addresses count, weight, moisture, access and insurance rather than treating storage as an afterthought.

03

Purity and form can change Canadian tax treatment.

The Canada Revenue Agency defines precious metal for GST/HST purposes using both form and purity. Its published threshold for silver is at least 99.9%, but a product still needs to fit the qualifying bar, ingot, coin or wafer framework and the facts of the supply matter.

Sterling products, jewellery, numismatic products and dealer services should not automatically inherit a bullion tax assumption. Seek transaction-specific Canadian tax advice for material purchases.

04

Confirm the product and the total price.

When enquiring about silver, specify the producer, weight, quantity and any preferred year or finish. These details help distinguish the product you want from another bar or coin with the same metal content.

Contact Meridian to discuss availability and purchase pricing. Catalogue metal values are a comparison starting point, not retail quotes. Confirm the exact item, total price and payment arrangements directly before committing.

Vancouver silver FAQ

Questions that belong in the open.

How do I enquire about buying silver?

Email info@meridiangold.ca with the product and quantity you’re considering. Availability and pricing are discussed directly. Browsing the catalogue does not reserve stock, place an order or lock a price.

Are silver coins better than bars?

Neither format is universally better. Coins may offer divisibility and recognition; bars may offer lower percentage premiums at larger sizes. Compare total cost, authentication, storage and future bid.

Is all silver bullion GST/HST exempt?

Do not assume so. CRA guidance uses specific purity and form requirements, and the particular product and supply matter. Obtain transaction-specific tax advice.

Why does physical silver cost more than the spot reference?

Fabrication, wholesale availability, distribution, payment, delivery, inventory risk and dealer margin can create a retail premium above the metal benchmark.
